Project Overview

The liight app will provide a convenient and efficient platform for users to manage and make payments for their electricity usage. It aims to simplify the process of electricity bill payment, enable users to track their energy consumption, and provide features that promote energy efficiency and cost savings.

My Contribution

Product designer, designing the liight app, landing page, admin dashboard and also the intuitive business to business dashboard for industries

The Problem

The Liight app face challenges in user adoption, integration with utility providers, data accuracy and privacy, user experience and interface design, customer support and issue resolution, security and fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance. Overcoming these challenges will be critical for the successful development and adoption of the app.

The Solution

To overcome challenges in user adoption, utility provider integration, data accuracy and privacy, user experience, customer support, security, fraud prevention etc, Liight will focus on targeted marketing, seamless integration, robust data validation, intuitive interface design, comprehensive support, strong security measures, fraud detection, and regulatory adherence.

The User Research

The Liight app involved gathering insights into the preferences, needs, and behaviors of the target audience. A registered meter number for credit and an active phone number/email address for KYC authentication & security. I conducted a competitive audit on competitor project such as BuyPower, Efactory and other third party payment platform. The research process began by conducting surveys to gather quantitative data on user demographics, current payment methods, and pain points related to electricity payment. Qualitative data was then collected through in-depth interviews with a sample of users, exploring their experiences, challenges, and expectations regarding electricity payment and energy management. Usability testing was also conducted to observe how users interacted with early prototypes, identifying any usability issues and gathering feedback for improvement. The research findings highlighted the importance of user-friendly interfaces, transparent billing information, energy consumption insights, and convenient payment options. These insights guided the design and development of the Liight app, ensuring it addresses user needs effectively and provides a seamless user experience.

The User Pain Points

Inconvenient Payment Process

Users find the traditional methods of electricity payment, such as visiting physical offices or making manual bank transfers, time-consuming and inconvenient.

Lack of Payment Visibility

Users struggle to track and monitor their electricity payment history and associated details, leading to a lack of transparency and difficulties in budgeting.

No Energy Consumption Data

Understanding and interpreting energy consumption data, such as kWh usage and associated costs, can be challenging for users, hindering their ability to manage and optimize their energy usage effectively.

Limited Payment Options

Users may feel restricted by a lack of flexible payment options, such as mobile payments or online banking, which can limit their convenience and flexibility in making timely payments.

User Story Board

The user storyboard below visually presents a user’s journey as the user interacts with the Liight app, capturing the essential steps and touch points to achieve his goals seamlessly. This will help the development teams to understand the user flow and identify areas for improvement in the app’s user experience.

Paper Frame

I started outlining the paper wireframes for the Liight app. These rough sketches represent the layout and structure of different screens within the app. Paper wireframes provide an initial visual representation of the app’s user interface and user flow, allowing for quick ideation and exploration of design ideas. The wireframes cover essential screens, such as onboarding, dashboard home, Usage page, recharge page, news page and support page. The wireframes serve as a foundation for further refining the app’s user experience and creating visual prototypes for development.

Digital Wireframes

I undertook a comprehensive redesign of the Liight app to enhance its functionality, usability, and overall user experience. The goal was to address existing design challenges and elevate the app to meet modern design standards.

Challenges

The original version of the Liight app faced usability issues, outdated interface design, and limited user engagement. Key challenges included

  • Cluttered interface leading to user confusion.
  • Inconsistent design elements across different screens.
  • Lack of intuitive navigation and user-friendly features.

    Approach

To tackle these challenges and elevate the app, I adopted a comprehensive design approach:

  • User Research: Conducted user interviews and usability tests to identify pain points and gather user feedback..
  • Wireframing and Prototyping: Created wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualize the new app structure and user flow.
  • Visual Design: Developed a fresh visual identity with modern color schemes, typography, and iconography.
  • New Features:

  • Liight Loan: Introduced a new feature allowing users to borrow electricity units, enhancing affordability and accessibility.
  • Power Management Tips Carouse: Implemented a carousel on the user page featuring power management tips and advice to promote energy conservation.
  • Redesigned Screens(WebApp)
